The theme for the 2024 Manchester Film Weekender is European Film Noir. The dates are Friday 2rd February - Sunday 4th February 2024.

This short festival aims to contrast European Neo-Noir films to the Noir films of the '40s and '50s, of which Bob the Gambler (1956) is a great example.
Each film is introduced by the speaker to provide context, and there is the opportunity for informal post-screening discussions.

Over the course of the weekend seven films will be screened at Altrincham Little Theatre, the first at 7pm on Friday evening, three further films on Saturday and three more on Sunday. The theatre will open at 6.00 on Friday evening and at 9.00 on Saturday and Sunday morning.

All films will be followed by breaks where coffee and biscuits are served and discussion of the films can take place. There will be lunch breaks on Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend will be led by our guest speaker Isabelle Vanderschelden, former Senior Lecturer in French Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University. Either Isabelle or John will introduce the films and lead the post-screening discussions.

Film tickets cost from £5.00 - £8.00 depending on how many films you wish to see. You can book online now. The full programme costs £35.00.
