Unfortunately all KinemaCat screenings are cancelled at the moment as a result of the pandemic.
We will update the website as soon as we have any information about restarting.

Russian film club KinemaCat, in association with Manchester Film Weekender, aims to bring together people with an interest in Russian cinema, language, and culture. Films will be screened in Russian with English subtitles at Altrincham Little Theatre.

KinemaCat aims to showcase the best of heritage and contemporary Russian cinema, and to be a meeting place for film fans and Russian culture enthusiasts. Run by Russian speakers, in collaboration with Manchester Film Weekender, it welcomes Russian and English speakers alike. If you would like to meet and talk with other Russian speakers in Greater Manchester, learn about Russian and Eastern European culture, or just enjoy good film and talking over coffee, in any language, this is the place for you.

We also welcome Russian language filmmakers looking to showcase their work, and full-length and short-form works by upcoming filmmakers will be included in the future KinemaCat programme.

Russian-language cinema is a world of pioneering art and acting skill, that holds a mirror to more than a century of history. It encompasses the extraordinary wealth of cultures and experience from across the Soviet and post-Soviet space. It can be revolutionary and thoughtful, range from lavish and epic to gritty and experimental, span tragedy and humour, be innovative, stunning, daring, controversial and intelligent. It never holds back. And it is constantly evolving, as new generations of filmmakers emerge and go on to win international acclaim. Revisit old favourites, discover new ones – and prepare to be surprised.
