A deeply personal docudrama on the condition of the people of Mali
Set in the courtyard of a mud walled house, this intimate personal story of an African couple on the verge of breaking up is told alongside a very public political trial.

Written and directed by the celebrated Malian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako, the critically acclaimed political drama offers a unique opportunity for audiences to become familiar with contemporary Africa. Sissako, who grew up in the courtyard that the film is set in, hired professional lawyers and judges along with "witnesses" to express their true feelings. Bamako voices Africa's grievances in an original and profoundly moving way.
