It expresses hope in human nature. The moving lead performances are strong selling points for Hui's following at home and abroad.
Following years of service to the family and after suffering a stroke, the maid announces she wishes to quit her job and move into an old people's home. A deceptively simple film, which gingerly peels away layer after layer of sharp insights into familial love using compassion and droll humour as its tools. Its strength is that it manages to tap into genuine emotion without succumbing to sentimentality.
