The Garden of the Finzi Continis is set just before the outbreak of WW2 and tells the story of the Finzi Continis, an aristocratic Jewish family protected from the outside world by the walls of their idyllic estate who don’t comprehend the threat of Mussolini’s Fascists until it is too late.
The film was adapted from the 1962 novel by Giorgio Bassani, and was filmed in the story’s actual location of Ferrera, in Emelia-Romagna, Northern Italy.
