An innocent young pianist falls for a famous violinist
Anita
Hoffman is an accomplished piano teacher, who meets the noted violinist Holger
Brant when she is teaching his daughter Ann-Marie. Brant asks Anita to be his
accompanist for his next tour and they have an affair.
Anita’s love for Holger
is so great that she is compelled to leave him to prevent a scandal and to save
his marriage.
Gösta Ekman and Ingrid Bergman star as Holger and Anita. It was a defining part for Bergman, as it made her a star in Sweden and caught the eye of American producer David O. Selznick, who offered the young actress a Hollywood contract and the chance to remake Intermezzo in English with Leslie Howard.
