The absurdities of human behaviour

In line with Chaplin’s “Modern Times”, the theme of Mon Oncle is the inability of one man to adapt to new technology.

Produced by, co-written and starring Jacques Tati, Mon Oncle is largely a visual comedy, with barely audible dialogue and colour and lighting employed to help tell the story.

The film was a huge success in France and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 1959 Academy Awards.
