The theme for the 2020 Manchester Film Weekender is Japanese cinema. The dates are Friday 31st January - Sunday 2nd February 2020. The weekend will be led by our guest speaker Jonathan Bunt, who teaches Asian Studies at the University of Manchester and is a great fan of Japanese cinema.

Accommodation will be at the Mercure Altrincham Bowdon Hotel and the films on Saturday and Sunday will be screened at Altrincham Little Theatre, which has a new 5-metre wide screen. Taxis will be laid on to take people from the hotel and back on the 5-minute journey to the theatre. All breaks and lunches will be at the theatre, where coffee and biscuits are served and discussion of the films can take place.

The photographer John McKenna will be exhibiting a collection of black-and-white photographs in the Little Theatre during the Japanese Film weekend festival. The exhibition is entitled Transient Moments. Full details are here.

The weekend starts on the evening of Friday 31st January, with dinner at the hotel around 7.00pm. After dinner, the speaker will outline the film programme and talk about his chosen films. There will be one film shown on the Friday evening at the Mercure hotel in one of the conference rooms.

There is a variety of ticket options available from full residential, a non-residential weekend package, Saturday only, Sunday only, film + dinner etc. You can also choose to attend just a part of the weekend if specific film(s) interest you.

We hope you can join us to discover this exciting weekend of film.
