During a sweltering summer, a rookie homicide detective tries to track down his stolen gun

A bad day gets worse for rookie detective Murakami when a pickpocket steals his gun on a hot, crowded bus. Frantic and ashamed, he goes undercover, scavenging Tokyo’s poverty-stricken slums and criminal underworld for the stray dog whose desperation has led him to a life of crime.

With each step, cop and criminal’s lives become more intertwined until a seasoned detective steps in to keep him on the right side of the law.

Kurosawa's crime drama film noir stars Toshiro Mifune as young homicide detective Murakami and Takashi Shimura as veteran detective Satō.
