A meticulously shot and gracefully orchestrated portrait of family life

Three sisters - Sachi, Yoshino and Chika - live together in the seaside town of Kamakura, in a large house originally belonging to their grandmother. All three have long since been estranged from both parents. Their father left them to live with another woman, with whom he had a child before moving on to wife number three. Their mother walked out too, leaving them in young adulthood in the family home.

When the sisters learn of their estranged father’s death, they travel to the countryside for his funeral. There they meet their much younger 13-year-old half-sister, Suzu for the first time. Bonding quickly, they invite the orphaned girl to live with them. Suzu eagerly agrees, and begins a new life with her older sisters.
