A young witch loses her magical abilities and must overcome her self-doubt to regain her powers
As is traditional for trainee witches, thirteen-year-old Kiki leaves home for her mandatory year of independent life. She flies off on her broomstick with her sarcastic black cat, Jiji, to the port city of Koriko.
She opens a "Witch Delivery Business", delivering goods by broomstick, but life away from home proves hard and following a bout of illness, Kiki becomes depressed. She discovers she can no longer understand Jiji, and she loses her flying ability. Kiki must search for a new purpose in life.
A sharp and truthful coming-of-age tale about the difficulties of adolescence and learning to make your own way in the world, this funny, optimistic and exciting film was a huge box-office hit in Japan.
